Kindergarten Club Takes Train Ride Wednesday, April 19, was si hap py day for boys and girls in Mrs. Howard Bunn’s kindergarten. The happy occasion was the celebration of Norma Helen Screws’ sixth birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Screws, Norma Helen’s parents, had a birthday party for her in the kin dergarten at two o’clock. Birth day cake, centered with • a doll iced in lavender dress, and punch were served to the children. Following the refreshments, Mr. and Mrs. Screws and Mr. and Mrs. Bunn carried the children to Wake Forest to get on the train for Ra leigh. This was the first train ride for most of the children. Each child was given a ticket by Mr. and Mrs. Screws, which was pre sented to the conductor. Each child, too, was given a Junior Rail road Certificate. The group was met in Ra leigh by Mr. Screws and Mts. Amos Estes. The New York Philharmonic Orchestra, which was to give a concert in Raleigh on Wednesday evening was also on the train. One of the players autographed Norma Helen’s Railroad Certificate. After refreshments in Raleigh and a brief visit through the rail road station, a tired but happy group journeyed home. Children on the trip were: Nor ma Helen, Michele Thomas, Pam ela Hicks, Jane Tippett, Sherrie Blackley, Amelia Bryant, John Da vis, Charles Estes, Freddie Wayne Pace, Catherine Sawyer, George Riggsby Massey III, and Melissa Beck. The group was accompanied on the train by Mrs. Screws and Mrs. Bunn. Norma Helen was interviewed by Mrs. Ruth Chamblee Thursday morning. She told Mrs. Chamblee on the radio show of the train ride and birthday party. The interview was conducted with the station’s beeper. Wakefield News Mrs. Verm B. Bhodce Our revival began Monday night and will go on through the 30th. The Masons of Whitestone Lodge 155 in Wakefield visited at our church Sunday a.m. and sat in a body. We were glad to have them. The Philathea Class will meet next Monday night with Mrs. Joe Alford at 7:30. Mrs. Jean Mangum will be co-hostess. The meeting was postponed on account of the revival. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Murray are back from their honeymoon and living in their new home on Circle Drive near Wakelon School. Weldon Mason died suddenly at his home above Wake Forest Sun day ajn. He is Mrs. Hettie Vause’s brother. Mrs. Vera Rhodes took Mrs. Alice Hood and Mrs. Hettie Vause to visit Mrs. T. Y. Puryear Saturday night. Mrs. Vera Rhodes visited in Ra leigh last Tuesday a.m. • Mrs. Lyda Bridges of Siler City spent Monday night with her sis ter, Mrs. Haywood Weathers, in Knightdale. Kearney Carlyle caught a 5 Vi pound bass at Hilliards’ Pond re cently. Mrs. Mamie Kimball returned from Norfolk, Va., Wednesday af ter visiting Mrs. John Marvin Kim ball and daughter Pam. She left Thursday for Texas to visit her son, Robert Lee Kimball, and his family. His wife will be operated on Monday. Miss Minda Green and Miss Christine Winstead of Garner and the demon Youngs visited our church last Sunday and had din ner with Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Baker. Mrs. Mable Hodge and Mrs. Enid Kass of Raleigh spent Satur day with Mrs. Jab Tippett. Mrs. Vera Rhodes went with Mr. and Mrs. W. L .Simpson and Mrs. M. D. Terry to Baltimore, Md., last Wednesday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Onnie Carlyle and son, Gregory. Onnie’s mother, Mrs. Mittie Car lyle, has been critically ill. She is better now. Mrs. Lois Perry of Florida is there with her for a while. . Davis D. Carlyle had a stroke a week ago and is in Maryland General Hospital, Lendon Ave. and Madison, Baltimore, Md. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hocutt and family visitea the W. L. Simpsons Sunday night, also Vera Rhodes. Mrs. Jack Gay’s children have had measles. Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh Sherron visited the G- H. Doyles Sunday .night. Mrs. Doyle is better. Mrs. Nuber Bolton visited Mrs. Stancy Gay over the weekend. Miley Whitaker is home from Rex Hospital. Mrs. D. D. Chamblee is improv ing at home. Marshall Strickland and Mr. Ed wards joined our church by letter last Sunday a.m. Rev. Horace Hamm’s mother is here to spend the week and at tend the revival. Mr. and Mrs. Bridge Club Meets Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Crafton Hudson were hosts to the Mr. and Mrs. Bridge Club last Saturday night at their home on East Sycamore Street. Artificial flowers were used for decoration. Club members present were Mr. and Mrs. James Alford, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kemp, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Beck, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Hagwood, Mr. and Mrs. Ruric Gill, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Liles. The hosts awarded ladies’ high to Mrs. Kemp; men’s high to Mr. Kemp; ladies’ low to Mrs. Gill and men’s low to Mr. Gill. After the end of three progres sions the hosts served chicken sal ad on lettuce, cheese-olive puffs, lemon chiffon pie and coffee. Cokes, pretzels and lemon drops were served during play. Arrangements of spring flowers were used throughout the Murray home for decoration. Club members playing were Mrs. Ed Hales, Mrs. Frank Massey, Mrs. Charles Hawkins, Mrs. Steve Blackley and Mrs. John Hicks. Guests were Mrs. R. H. Brant ley, Mrs. Vance Brown, Mrs. L. E. Long, Mrs. A. Birth Announcement Mr. and Mrs. William Sain of Lynchburg, Va., announce the birth of a daughter, Beverly Ann, April 16.
